CLIMATE AND VEGETATION

The average temperature in Okahandja in August for a typical day range from a high of 82°F (28°C) to a low of 48°F (9°C). Some would describe it as mildly cool with a gentle breeze. For comparison, the hottest month in Okahandja, November, has days with highs of 95°F (35°C) and lows of 63°F (17°C). The vegetation of the area can be classified as thornbush savanna. Dominant tree species are Camelthorn, Blue-thorn, Sweet-thorn and Ringwood. Okahandja has a wide selection of bird life and is truly a feast for the nature lover.

Choose from a variety of native species which include greater kudu, oryx, springbok, cape eland, red hartebeest, warthog. The indigenous black-faced impala, damara dik-dik and hartmann’s zebra occurs for the hunting connoisseur. Brown hyena, cheetah and leopard are available.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

This area is Malaria-free. The closest hospital is approximately 90 minutes away.

FIREARMS AND HUNTING CONDITIONS

The recommended minimum caliber for oryx is a .300 or similar, but a caliber in the .375 range can come in handy for cape eland. Hunting is done by walking and stalking.
